Episode 12: Flying Solo!

Yesterday was my first day in clinics on my own! Up until now I have been getting to know my way to and around the clinics, meeting the teams there and shadowing  the residents. I have to admit to a somewhat restless night’s sleep the night before, but thanks to the patience and support of Suzi and Sam, the day passed uneventfully.

As I expected, it is the mechanics of being in a new clinic that present the challenge – the computer system! Even though the database is nominally the same as the one I use at home, inevitably it is more complex here and it will take some getting used to. I still have to tackle a completely different system at the university clinic – one that I have no experience with at all! Thank goodness there are such amazing and helpful nurses to help me. Really enjoying the work, meeting clients from “back home” and from far afield.

Had my first experience of “rush” immunotherapy induction – lovely little dog with her pet pig! All went smoothly, not that I had to actually do anything much except be available if needed! One thing I am very impressed with is how great the nurses are at striving for a stress-free experience for the patients. We seem to go through a lot of peanut butter!
