Episode 7: ALL SYSTEMS GO!

It is the early hours of the morning, only 28 hours before the limousine is scheduled to collect me, and too excited to sleep! It has been a strange last 10 days – have seen no-one apart from my housemate and not been anywhere except to ferry him to the station and back a couple of times. Then today (well, yesterday) I felt liberated – drove to the Covid testing centre for predeparture swabs. Have now allowed myself farewell coffee, takeaway and walk with various friends and dinner this evening with my sister, brother-in-law and close friends in the village. Big suitcase packed and now closed (just) and only last minute packing of second suitcase and carry-on luggage remaining. Covid PCR test results already through – NEGATIVE! Worth the self-imposed isolation. Check-in done online. G2G pass updated. Documents and certificates printed out in duplicate as well as on my mobile phone. Really looking forward to the experience of travelling first class! Hoping to treat myself to a shower after leaving Dubai and have a proper flat bed for the night – if I manage to get to sleep. At least I shall have plenty of time in quarantine to catch up on sleep and adjust to the time change. And it will be a full 14 days now that the regulations are not being relaxed on 5th February. But I have plenty planned to keep me busy – 3 bits of work (reviewing paper, writing a supporting document, drafting a paper), 3 knitting projects for babies of friends expected over the next 3-5 months, 2 jigsaw puzzles, a couple of books and plenty more on Kindle, workout routines and plans to Zoom with friends and relatives. And then the adventure can really begin!

Next episode will be from Perth!
