Have had the “final” courtesy call from my travel agent today. All looking good for departure on 23 January, courtesy limousine booked. Parting shot from agent “Don’t go getting Covid!” It is a week until the pre-departure PCR test, so starting a couple of days ago, I have put myself into voluntary isolation! No more friends or visitors in the house until after the swabs have been submitted, apart from my personal trainer (masked and lateral flow test negative and socially distanced), and my housemate. Had a final visit in person earlier in the week from my good friend from choir and shared canal boat holidays, Susannah, for takeaway dinner and farewell selfie!
Have now actually started putting things in the suitcase. Memories from boarding school days – start with the lumpy things (shoes, jigsaw puzzles) and then fill in with small stuff and finish with bigger items that need to go flat (one smart jacket!). Hope I will get everything in! Not made much headway with tidying the office yet, but still a few days to go. Can’t find the concentration for that last bit of writing – but there’s going to be plenty of time in the quarantine facility. Actually starting to realise that there are friends and family that I won’t be seeing again for a while – although no worse than the various lockdowns have been – but suspect time will go much more quickly for me on my adventure than those I am leaving behind. So looking forward to getting on that plane – seat IA has my name on it!
