Preparing For Your Pet's Appointment

At Animal Skin and Allergy Clinic, we practice a team approach and will keep your primary veterinarian involved in all diagnostic and therapeutic decisions pertaining to your pet’s condition.

Please note that a consultation is necessary prior to any procedure (for example, intradermal skin testing, and so on) so that your pet may be thoroughly evaluated.

Please remember the following for your appointment with us:

We are primarily an outpatient service and perform many diagnostic tests during your visit, therefore an appointment may be longer than what you are accustomed to with your regular veterinarian. Please expect to spend one to two hours at the hospital with your pet.
Please do not bathe or apply medications to the skin or ears for at least five days prior to your appointment. Most oral (by mouth) medications may be continued, except for antibiotics, antihistamines, and corticosteroids, such as prednisone, Temaril-P, Vetalog, or triamcinolone. If you have any questions, please contact our office. In some cases, these medications can be continued.
If you are being referred for a specific procedure, such as an intradermal skin test or skin biopsy, please do not feed your pet for six hours before the appointment. Water is fine at any time before the appointment.

To help us ensure a thorough assessment of your pet, kindly prepare the following:

Please fill out our New Client Patient Form 48 business hours before your appointment.
We will contact your regular veterinarian for information that he or she may have about the previous tests and treatments of your pet. He or she will have faxed or mailed this information to us prior to your visit.
In addition, it is very helpful if you could bring with you bottles of all medications including pills, creams, lotions, and shampoos (prescribed by veterinarians as well as over-the-counter products) that your pet is receiving or has recently received. Also as you will see on our form, we need to know the names of the foods and treats, and the names of medications or shampoos, you are using for your pet.
