Marvin Daniel Schuldenfrei, VMD

Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Dermatology

Dr. Schuldenfrei attended the University of Maryland at College Park for his undergraduate degree, receiving his BS in Biology in 2013. While in college, Dr. Schuldenfrei worked and studied at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, supporting conservation efforts for endangered wildlife species.

Dr. Schuldenfrei went on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, earning his VMD degree, as well as the AAVD Excellency in Veterinary Dermatology award, in 2017. After graduation, he undertook a rotating internship at Garden State Veterinary Specialists (Tinton Falls, NJ), followed by a dermatology specialty internship at the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana, IL). He was accepted into the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) residency program at University of California-Davis (Davis, CA) in 2019. After completing his residency in 2022, Dr. Schuldenfrei joined the Animal Dermatology Clinic – Portland and obtained Diplomate status with the ACVD. 

Dr. Schuldenfrei was recognized with the ACVD Peter J. Ihrke Resident Research Award for Clinical Science in 2022 for his study regarding canine ear masses. While he enjoys treating all forms of dermatologic conditions, he has strong interests in autoimmune skin disease, ear disease, and allergies.

Fun Facts:

Outside of work, Dr. Schuldenfrei spends most of his free time with his girlfriend, his dogs, and his cat. If he’s not reading, he’s either binging a TV show or spending time outside, which could include hiking or playing a variety of sports (volleyball, frisbee, tennis, etc.).
